stumps, and other vegetation. \u00a0It is regulated daily by the DEQ and ARF&amp;R.\u00a0 No backyard burning is ever allowed outside of burn season or during a BURN BAN.\u00a0 The following information will help you determine if backyard burning is allowed on any given day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>During the backyard burning season, the Adair Rural Fire &amp; Rescue district follows the daily DEQ advisory for \u201cbackyard burning\u201d. However, the ARFD Chief has the authority to make a local decision if warranted that will be clearly announced on this webpage.\u00a0 If there is a \u201cBURN BAN\u201d prohibiting all outdoor open flames, it will be listed on the DEQ webpage.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Steps to Determine if Backyard Burning is Allowed in the\u00a0Adair Rural Fire &amp; Rescue District:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><b>1) Determine if burning season open or closed. See BOLD top of this page.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>2) If burning season is open, go to \u201cWillamette Valley Open Burning Announcement\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/smkmgt.com\/burn.php\">http:\/\/smkmgt.com\/burn.php<\/a>\u00a0for the daily yes\/no and hours advsiory.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><b>3) Locate the section: \u201cBackyard burning inside special control areas\u201d and follow the regulations for that day.\u00a0 The website will say in bold if backyard burning is allowed and during what times.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>NOTE: There is no need to call the fire station to get daily backyard burning information as indicated on the DEQ smkmgt\u00a0 website.\u00a0 Adair follows the information posted in the section \u201cBackyard burning inside special control areas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Please remember smaller piles are easier to manage. Do not ignite piles on hot or windy days.\u00a0 Backyard burning must be constantly attended and only during the posted hours on authorized burn days<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Backyard burning cannot involve any domestic, demolition, industrial and commercial waste.\u00a0 No Garbage.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The DEQ specifically prohibits the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:list --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rubber and plastic products.<\/li>\n<li>Tires.<\/li>\n<li>Wet garbage.<\/li>\n<li>Petroleum and petroleum-treated materials.<\/li>\n<li>Asphalt or industrial waste.<\/li>\n<li>Any material that creates dense smoke or noxious odors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>It is against the law to conduct any open burning that:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:list --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Unreasonably class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Recreational and warming fires are for the purpose of cooking and warming.<\/p>\n<p>These fires are not regulated by the DEQ Daily burn advisory and only prohibited during a BURN BAN. The only cooking fires allowed during a BURN BAN are commercial gas fueled barbeques.&nbsp; no charcoal or wood barbeques are allowed during a BURN BAN.<\/p>\n<p>There are rules associated with recreational and warming fires that will be enforced by ARF&amp;R.<\/p>\n<p>Recreational fires must be in approved pits made of non-combustible materials no greater than 3 feet in diameter and a minimum of 3 feet from any other combustible material.&nbsp; The pit must be 10 feet from all structures as measured by the roof overhang, a fence or vegetation.&nbsp; The pile and flames shall be less than 2 feet in height. A flaming fire must be constantly attended and have an immediately available means to extinguish it such as a garden hose, fire extinguisher or shovel and sand.<\/p>\n<p>Small amounts of paper may be used to start recreational fires.
